Melville Ingalls was president and receiver of the Indianapolis, Cincinnati, and Lafayette Railroad Company which was headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio. This railroad company was reorganized during the 1870's as the Cincinnati, Lafayette, and Chicago Railway Company.
